It must be to do with this simply wretched cold I've got. But my ears are literally painfully deaf. Not only do they hurt, but I can't hear very well at all. I just belched, and it felt like my left ear had flooded...

Probably fluid in the ear from the cold, itll clear up when the cold does and theyll probably block before then.
It may just be inflamed, You should go to a doctor he'll give you some stuff.
I don't know the initial symptoms of tetanus.
