OMG it's 4.10am and my animation is still rendering :( i still have to put all my mocies together and add music. Then at 8.20am get up and walk in to uni for a 4 hour lecture in which a very tired me will present my animation.

It's all been going wrong here. My 'copy' of premiere has funked up it won't let me use the mpeg 4 codec that i have to use. Now using virtual dub to put them together but this means no fading transitions :( . One of my renders failed twice which means i have to leave it out.

My presentation is a critical review of my project so far. (so far it's looking shoddy) They are going to rip me apart :( i mean yeah the smoke and the lighting rocks but cause of teh transitions i'm screwed. I was on a first for the project so far now this is going to bring me down to like a 2.1 then i just gotta hope the final version gets me another first.

My brain hurts. I have learnt that 3d animation is too unstable to leave to the night before. Theres a lesson there kidds.

If i get the time tomorrow i will post a link to my animation. It's only 30 seconds and it's for a bbc-i channel Spark. Which i happen to do student stuff for.

Well off to finish it all. Had a rant feel abit better head hurts though.

Part of the alien model I'm building. Bryce has something called 'metaballs' (MAXS probably has equivalent, not sure about that), where you can place spheres and it renders a mesh around them. Really cool for things like this.

Not into that sort of stuff yet. Building models and rendering keeps me happy for hours.

This took quite a while to draw the model, even if it does look quite simple. Lots of intersecting shapes to build the eye sockets and embedded mouth.

I'll have to get into MAX, but Bryce is just so easy. I didn't think it was that bad - the camera path builds curves when you add keyframes, and seems to travel in a nice arc - could it have been the compression that made it seem jerky?

Also, how do you do non-standard shapes in Bryce? If I want to do curved boxes I have to build spheres into the corners, which isn't always convenient. Is there some kind of 3D polygon tool, or plug-in?

And, yes, it's my first few attempts at making stuff in the software. Only making bog-standard spaceships and robots at the moment - working on some better 3D scenes and building textures in Photoshop now.

Grix - do you still make animations? i liked your camera work and some of your ideas, the shot where the dude comes out the giant eye was cool. textures and modelling weren't too great though, everything was a bit low-poly tastic and the animation of the guys limbs could've been better, but the music was really good and fitted perfectly, shame you lost the whole piece :(

M_M - make friends with the curve editor (if you're using MAX, if not, find the equivelent in whatever software you're using), it'll help you to smooth out your camera, as it's pretty jerky right now. is this your first project?
