I originally had Firefox 0.8 and every time I clicked a link, the message box would pop up 'randomwebsite.com could not be found. Check the name and try again' or something along those lines. so I click ok, click the link again and it works.

This is getting very annoying as I have to do it every time I click a link.

I upgraded to Firefox 1.0 and the problem is still there.

Internet Explorer is fine however.

I don't have any spyware, adware or virii on my machine so I haven't a clue why it's playing up all the time.

Any help please?

EDIT - sometimes I can't even access a link at all without resorting to IE. Grrr!

When you type in an address, your computer makes a request to a DNS server to match the domain to an IP address allowing you to visit a site. Windows keeps some of these in a cache on the hard drive, meaning that in future, it's quicker to get to the site as you don't have to go to a remote DNS server first.

However, if one time the DNS server resolved a domain to an incorrect IP address, this will be cached, and your computer will try to connect to this IP address each time. By clearing your cache, you force your PC to connect to the DNS server again.

If you type in:

ipconfig /displaydns

you can view the list of sites in your DNS cache.

I used to get that problem. I can't remember what I did exactly, but I think it involved reinstalling Firefox, and flushing out my DNS cache.

Looks that way.

If I see a solution, I'll let you know ... for a small fee.
