When I was about 13, I told a teacher that my parents were splitting up, so that I could get out of doing some homework. They weren't splitting up, of course, it was a cunning lie to look big in front of my friends, and so that I could spend the night playing Street Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive instead. Now my girlfriend of 5 years' Aunt was a classroom assistant at the time, and she kind of knew my parents. It turns out that my parents splitting up became a big talking point in the teacher's lounge, and word spread...
Then last night we were talking about things we did at school (the worst the gf ever did was break a paintbrush), and it turns out that her and her Aunt had talked about the situation with my parents before, and my girlfriend had never spoken to me about it because she didn't know how to bring up the subject. I wonder how far word of my parents splitting up went?
