I refer to the competition to give a game to the first girl newbie:

"Believe it or not, this is not only unfair, BUT IS ILLEGAL. Yes, that's right. Under the sex discrimination act, giving people this sort of advantage is illegal- whether it be for men or for women.

Interestingly, this means that you can't give a high flying job to a woman to try to encourage other women to work, if there is a man that can do a better job (~Germain Greer).

So please stop this prize, or else, by law, all regulars will be allowed a free game from now on! (No joke!)

Sonic"

And this is no joke!

Tony's Reply:
I'm amazed that anyone should complain.

Basically, there are laws against material forms of sexual discrimination. These are to prevent undue advantage AND undue persecution, hurt or stress to BOTH males and females.

But there is no law against running a competition which is open to female entrants only. In fact the only way to contend this would be to take the matter to court where it would be decided on the basis of general perameters of discimination law and historical precedent.

The only person you could take to court is me, because I placed the competition. Nobody else on the forums is guilty of anything. After you have spent your twenty grand you might, if you had exceptional lawyers, get a ruling that a similar competition must be run for the fellas.

But as you know, the fellas don't begrudge one extra GD going to the cause of increasing the number of participants on these forums.

Many competitions around the world are only open to one sex, this is just another, and I don't have any problem with it, what is your problem Sonic!

I think it's a cool idea to get girls involved in games, what better way than to give them a free game? who are you to stop them! if it were the other way and girls ruled the furoms, and Tony was called Tonita, or something, then she might make a competition where the first boy regular to join would get a free game! then you'd be up for it! I don't doubt that most of the girls here are actually regulars trying to get a new game, good luck to them, my sister wouldn't join, she's really bad on my games, but like 'travel Jenga'.

You know, I wonder if that law applies to competitions...
Competitions are generally considered to be same as gambling by the courts, so they probably wouldn't enforce this rule in this circumstance. Anyway, it usually applies to employment and such and there are infact several exceptions to the rules even when it comes to employment (GOQs for example).

So it probably isn't illegal at all, you might want to look into it.

Still it would certainly make for an interesting case in the future so if you do take it to court it will be some most useful case law as a basis for such things in the future.

Oh for god sake!

sonic you are just being pedantic and petty. Who cares if this is a competition open only to females? GAD hsa been running for ages and everyone else (nearly ALL male) have had more than enough chances to win. I personally think you're a tiny bit jealous.

Grix made the best point, it's a competition but a competition open only to females. It's not illeagal at all.

It's not remotely illegal, everyone has an equal chance of winning gameaday, and this is a competition for women only. As Grix said, you get them in plenty of other places, why not here?

Nah its not illegal. We are getting lots of opportunities to win games it's only fair if we give girls a good chance to win one. And so what? SR don't have to give us games do they. They are there games they can do what they want with them.
