Hey folks,

Probably an easy one for someone to answer, this!

Having been lucky enough to receive an Xbox for Christmas, I was looking forward to many hours of widescreen Halo 2 enjoyment.

However - my Halo 2 only seems to play in 4:3?

I've managed to play NFSU2, Star Wars Battlefront and Madden 2005 in 16:9 without a problem, but both Halo 2 and Pro Evo revert to 4:3 as soon as the game loads.

Any ideas? Is this just the way it is, are these two games not playable in 16:9?

Obviously I could switch the TV from 4:3 to 16:9, but this would lead to distortion and I don't want that . . .

It isn't an intermittent bug; it is the way the games are programmed.

I can over ride it by manually selecting the display format, which I am sure most people can do. Weird thing is, some games actually look a hell of a lot better in 16:9 despite designed to run in Panorama/Stretched. The same goes for some games that run in 16:9, they often look more proportional in Panorama.

Same happens with me every now and then.

I just switch between the AV channels until I get back onto the Xbox channel and it's fine.

My TV also automatically switches from 16:9 to 4:3, hence when Halo 2 or Pro Evo load, the screen switches.

Bit of a disappointment, especially as Pro Evo 4 on the PS 2 supports 16:9 . . . .

They don't support it. You will have to play them in Panorama like I do. Certain games aren't coded to work in 16:9 in the same way certain Sky Digital programs don't. Mine just automatically switches to 16:9 when it is available.

That seems crazy, that the two premier titles for the Xbox don't support widescreen . . . .

I've set the Xbox itself to be 16:9, and I can't find any option in either game for setting the screen size.

Has anyone else with either game managed to get them working on 16:9?

Try going into the Xbox Dashboard.

If that fails, perhaps those games simply do not support 16:9, which sucks.

Usually if there is the option of 16:9 on a game then you will be able to find it in the options menu. If it isn't there then chances are that there is no such option on the game.
