Hey folks,

Probably an easy one for someone to answer, this!

Having been lucky enough to receive an Xbox for Christmas, I was looking forward to many hours of widescreen Halo 2 enjoyment.

However - my Halo 2 only seems to play in 4:3?

I've managed to play NFSU2, Star Wars Battlefront and Madden 2005 in 16:9 without a problem, but both Halo 2 and Pro Evo revert to 4:3 as soon as the game loads.

Any ideas? Is this just the way it is, are these two games not playable in 16:9?

Obviously I could switch the TV from 4:3 to 16:9, but this would lead to distortion and I don't want that . . .

It isn't an intermittent bug; it is the way the games are programmed.

I can over ride it by manually selecting the display format, which I am sure most people can do. Weird thing is, some games actually look a hell of a lot better in 16:9 despite designed to run in Panorama/Stretched. The same goes for some games that run in 16:9, they often look more proportional in Panorama.

Isn't it panoramic or something, rather than Panorama?

Might be on other TV's, for mine it is Panorama.

We're sortof getting away from the point here - switching the TV from 4:3 to 16:9 manually distorts the picture.

The joy of having a game like Pro Evo running on 16:9 is that there is more of the pitch visible, as is the case with the same game on the PS 2 - makes it much nicer to play as you can see where your players are earlier and also can see more of the pitch.

Switching the TV amnually won't increase how much is shown, it will just "stretch" what is already available.

That's not what I'm looking for - I'm looking to get the game running in 16:9 without any distortion.

If the game is only coded to play 4:3, so be it. But it is annoying when it is coded in 16:9 on the PS 2.

Thatw as the point I was trying to get across.

Yeah I know, I was just pointing out you can still adjust it. Panorama stretches the image so you see more on screen however sometimes it leaves the characters looking really thin and the environment stretches around them.

Taking a 4:3 screen of Pro Evo and stretching it to 16:9 would end up making the players look fatter than Diego Maradona, surely . . . .

16:9 yeah. Panorama wouldn't though.

For Pro Evo 4, use the wide camera and set your TV to widescreen mode.

The game itself isn't 16:9, but this camera makes it look as close as it gets.

Pro Evo 4 on the PS2 doesn't support 16:9 either. No Pro Evo game ever has.

I beg to differ - I've got Pro Evo 2 and 3 on PS 2 and both support 16:9 . . . .
