You hear Weapons specialists saying "Oh we've made a Super weapon called the Atom Bomb..then the Nuke" But then you hear the Boastful "We have enough Nuclear bombs to blow the world up 10 times over..so there!!"
But you must ask yourself why make such weapons? Why blow up your own planet 10 times over?
MANKIND is going backwards!

Technologically mankind is definitely going forward, but in the wrong fields. Because of that it can be said that mankind is going backwards. Reverting to conflicts at a drop of a hat instead of continuing forward from the ideals held when resolving your problems with wars was thought of as barbaric by a somewhat aristocratic society in Britain and only done as a last resort. Not a seemingly last resort peddled by the media.

I disagree. Weapons research always has been the most high profile of all mankinds research from the introduction of the longbow. To make a blanket statement like "in the wrong fields" ignores the advances made in medical and technoloical areas that are a boon to mankind. Think of two hundred years ago. Would you have liked to go to hospital? no.

I think you'll find we perform a lot more diplomacy before jumping into wars too. Was this the aristocratic society in Britain that created the British empire? As much as they would like to think so, the media don't make policy. Increasingly inluence, yes, create, no.

Mankind will always fight, at least until there is proof of extraterrestrial life then we'll come together as a race to war on aliens with three eyes and dubious personal hygiene.

According to that statement, mankind has been going backwards ever since ug the neanderthal man hit ug the other neanderthal man over the head with his bigger chunk of animal bone. :D

I disagree 100%. Without wars we, technologically, would not be where we are today. You see, whatever way you look at it, Wars *are* good for the advance in technology. Without conflicts arising, we wouldn't advance as fast. Think about it- scientists are employed to design new aircraft, new weapons, learn new techniques etc and implement them. A good example is the Springfield sniper in WWI/WWII. The sniper rifle used before the Springfield was made individually, by hand. This meant that it took much longer to create, say, 100 sniper rifles. The Springfield factory created the means to produce multiple snipers at one time. (insert the correct term here...). Multiple Snipers could be made at one time using special techniques/machines.

Another example being nuclear power. The same nucear principles that Germany/US were racing to find/prove is used today to power Nuclear Submarines/powerplants etc.

See?

Yes, mankind really is devolving.

Hang on, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??! They never evolved in the first place.

War = the biggest catalyst for sciences.
