Government is planning to cut benefit for pensions. Personally, I don't see the problem... especially when I met someone the other day who has been living off unemployment benefit for years and told me he has no intention of getting a job.

Kind of made me angry, didn't want to start another fight though.

Knowing that your wages would be cut to pay for benefits, would you EVER want to get a job after being on so long?

I was on JSA for just under a year, about 3 years ago now. It really helped me out, I didn't abuse the system and I was applying for jobs (although I can see how people get away with not applying, the Job Centre never check).

It helped me out. Could we all perhaps argue that when people are made to get a job that people should start slowly paying back their benefits? In terms of JSA at least. Or is that totally crazy? I would have done it, never did like walking in there to sponge :(

Solution? = Not to remove the system....sort out the abuse.

Munn, your argument is basically 'something is used by some people. So we'll deny it to everyone'.

My job deals with benefits, often talking to claimants over the phone, but for every case I work on I see their details.

There are WAY too many people who have kids, don't work, aren't disabled or have any other reason why they can't work, and have a PARTNER who doesn't work and isn't disabled. Just two people claiming income support, job seekers allowance and child tax credit.

And I know/have known people claiming who just say "I can get the same money if I get a job and give up all my free time - why would I want to do that?"

There will always be abuses of any system - that doesn't mean that it is not worthwhile. Glad to see you retracted your statement munn, because you sounded like a complete twonk :D

yeah..its probably not their fault. maybe more care has to be taken when examining cases, like job applications and offers. maybe forced employment at crap pay etc.

So stop whinging... and I had to find my own job which is about as much fun as... working.
