My dad's too smart.
He'll say "If you need money. GET A JOB!"
End.
He is no fair.
I know what you mean....
Show them this EMA lark and tell them that they SHOULD be giving you money, or they'll burn up in hell.
But consider that although my parents have money, it doesn't mean they give me money.
"Can I get money dad?"
"No, get a job"
Simple.
I should get money.

It's an incentive for poorer family members to go into Higher Education instead of getting a dead end job like the rest of them.
I've applied for it, I'm in Year 13 so I won't get it for long.
Basically, if your parents earn more then £30k a year, they are wealthy enough to be able to buy you stuff, pure and simple.
It basically takes the strain of purchasing stuff using your parents money.
If anything the money should go to the parents rather than the child.
You go to school, you get money, I go to school, I get naff all (except an education).

Oh, like what happened with my mum?
She only spent 10 years in school and had to drop out, then worked her behind off to get herself a job paying good money, when my brother was born, she was a single parent, as she coped.
Or how about my dad, who didn't even go to school.
he was brought up on a farm and went off to train to become and engineer and worked his way up to become the head engineer of McCormick Europe (or something like that).
My mum's job doesn't pay as much now, but that's becasue she only works part time as she looks after the family.
So even if you do have problems, they do end, and you can go on and get something good after that.
Unless you're lazy.
