Our school started the chess club today, so I thought I'd pop along and see if I'm still up to scratch. I haven't been in a chess club since '97 when I represented the year 6 team (seed 5) - despite being in year 3. However, in my 2 1/2 matches with a guy from the year above today - I prevailed both times and I'm eyeing up the one spot in January to the National Chess Championship to represent the school. And the organiser (from the Sith Form) is the former Under 18 British Chess Champion, so that's all good.

Truly the sport of Kings.

I would love a marvel heroes chess set. And a lord of the rings one.

No matter how many pieces of mine he takes, I always beat Albino-Man at chess.

The other night we were playing an intense game of Marvel Heroes Chess™ at around 1am. He took all my pieces but 3 pawns and the castles. I got a pawn to the otherside and put him in checkmate :D

He's come close but never beaten me (that I recall) at chess. Not even at Mickey & Friends chess!

I play chess on my phone. The AI is ridiculous though, would you give up your queen to take a pawn?

Doubtful.

Like cricket, chess is one of those games that you have to play to really enjoy.

Chess is one of those interesting games. Anyone remember the match they showed on Channel 4 about 8-9 years ago now? Nigel Short vs Gary Kasparov.

..the most BORING thing ever screened. Chess is great but when you've literally got two guys sitting there, looking at the board and really taking their time in moving there's something questionable about it.

Me personally, I'm not all that in the game of chess - I just don't see it coming when someone wants to steal my Queen.

Best of luck in it, what's the prize for being the national champion (apart from the fame and glory =P).
