Yet another installment in the Nintendo series, the Gamecube is set to arrive,...In about 10 years time knowing Nintendo. I suppose with the new-ish UK offices in Surrey we will see games a lot sooner in ratio that we did with the N64 but will the Gamecube be all that good?!

I am really not that sure, I mean people to date still prefer SNES's to N64's, but i suppose just in the same way people prefer PSX's to PS2's. But will the Gamecube end up further down the list?! The games in talks are sequels, Rogue Squadron, Zelda, Mario, Wave Race, Metroid. Okay so metroid is new in style but seriously, will these games offer anymore than their predecessors, or even their predecessors, predecessors?!

Same old link, fighting people, out to save the world. Bowser is back yet again, Mario kills him whoopie do. Look at me, my jet-ski has more polygons...not that you really noticed but it is a matter of principle....right?!

The Gamecube is definitely a powerful machine, comparable to the X-Box and PS2 by all means, but as history has shown, the console doesn't mean a thing, nor does the release date, as the Saturn was released before the PSX even if by a month or so. It is the games, and I think there will come a point where people eventually say "No!" to Mario and Link. I know they haven't with regards to Final Fantasy but each one is a new adventure, the storylines and characters even differ, but not so much the case with Mario.

I will get a Gamecube I like the games, I love the company and the idea of playing another Mario or Zelda is great...but surely this contradicts your previous point Game.....well not really as I am one in about 50 million people who play games...others may want new games, new genres and new characters.

I suppose I am getting a Gamecube partly because I am Nintendo Loyal, I wouldn't get a PS2, I don't like the company, the games won't include Zelda and Mario and above all they are in competition with Nintendo and as I said "I am getting a Gamecube partly because I am Nintendo Loyal".

The Gamecube won't really be the same.....there will be new games, veteran characters in all new adventures, and plus with all the 3rd party support what is to say that the Gamecube won't boast better versions and sequels to the games that made the PSX a success?!

Successful games, most of the time, are followed up by a sequel, Banjo-Kazooie, Metal Gear Solid, Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure. The only reason games are successful is because people like them, and as a result they buy them. There were about 30-40 solid Games on the N64, from Mario 64 to Wave Race and Goldeneye to Zelda. There really is no reason for companies like Rare and Nintendo NOT to make sequels for the Gamecube. People want sequels for assurace of a good games. Okay so not all sequels are the best or even better than their predecessors but with Rare and Nintendo, as sick as you might be of hearing it, their sequels are bound to hit home.

"Rare have done it again" and "Nintendo Classic" sound all too familiar but at least them being familiar means that they continually make games that please. It has happened with the N64 and it will happen with the Gamecube. The games may be similar, especially to start off with but you can be guaranteed that they will be good.

MGS2 and GT3 are all well and good, but with those two being the only 2 MAJOR exclusives because of serious competition from Microsoft and Nintendo they haven't got enough backing to make a serious shot. MGS2 will no doubt take the PS2's off the shelves but you think that a Gamecube will over 15 release games won't?! Mario...full 3D...bigger, better adventure more of everything...Mario Kart 128...enough Said?!

So if you think that they will be the same old Nintendo games, especially to start off with, then you're probably right, but that is what I, and many other people love as Nintendo fans. And if you don't like it, fine, Get a Playstation 2 but with Rare, Nintendo, and more developers than you can shake your PS2 controller at do you really want to be on the OTHER team...

....Thought not...

You only said it was a version, not the correct one, and now I see why.

I never said anything about the one player game other than it was a bit thin in comparison to PD and Goldeneye.

So, you being an "intelligent gamer" decided to compare PD multiplayer to TimeSplitters Solo player. Erm? Is it me, or did you not get it Dringo.

As for the "one hour and they came to me for PD" comment. That is either a lie, or an exaggeration. Perhaps they were already invited. I know for a fact that they wouldn`t give up after an hour and go to yours for PD, especially after reading one of your "convincing" arguments!

10 players does sound a lot, but I've played nearing 15 players online at UT with no lag with my old modem. That was utterly amazing. :)

I know that PD does slow down with 4 players and 4 simulants does tend to slow down a bit and I don't know whether Timesplitters has simulants and how many it can manage without slowing down but look-

The PS2 technology is 4 years older than the N64's and outclasses it. But there was still only a small diference between the games.

Now if Rare managed to make something on the N64 that was comparable to one of the best games on the "10 times as powerful" PS2, imagine what they can pull off on the Gamecube which is even more powerful than the almighty PS2.

Infact all this about PD slowing down gives me a point to put in the Game's topic.
With the Gamecubes power, slowdown will hopefully become a thing of the past and you'll be able to invite some friends round to play a 4 player split screen deathmatch, plus 20 simulants, plus about 10 extra players online and hopefully without lag and slowdown.

Here's my version of the PD vs Timespitters argument.

TS is the greatest PS2 game i have ever played but although the graphics are smooth they aren't that detailed.

The multiplayer doesn't come close, sorry but although the map editor is a stroke of genius the horror of 4 friends taking on 1 dark sim is not reconstructed here. Slayer, 4 friends (team 1), Dark sim (team 2), Temple = utter horror and pure addrenaline!

Most of the time Timespitters is pick something up and go to the end of the level or simply get to the end of the level.

all my Playstation friends played TS for an hour and then they came round mine for PD. TS is a good game but PD has the edge on the fact i has been made by a Rare team not just DR. Doak.

Sadly, many Nintendo owners can be rather ignorant and biased. Same can be said of owners of the other consoles, though.

I blame single-format magasines. They give an absurdly biased opinoin and never mention opposing consoles. People brought up on this stuff beleive it, sadly.

To the tune of “If you like a load of chocolate on ‘ya biscuit join the club”

If you like a load of Gamecube in your bedroom save up now!

:)

Anyway, where was I?

Oh yeah…

Someone said “The problem with the N64 and possibly Gamecube is that they are for younger gamers” earlier on. I don’t agree with this.

Why?

Well, yes they are colour friendly, yes the characters look cute and cuddly but have YOU actually tried to complete all the “childish”? If not I suggest you do then come back and suggest that they are still childish. If they were childish and aimed at young children, surely they would have wanted them to be really easy to complete.

When I was pro Sony and no one else I too said that N64 was aimed for children, but it wasn’t until I actually got one until I changed my mind about Nintendo!

Next point.

Someone said “PS2 same games, same controller if you wan't something the same as always then look at the PS.” Well, for a start the games are different. SSX, Timesplitters, Shadow Of memories, Zone Of The Enders…I could go on to name a dozen more.
The controller LOOKS the same, but is infact much, much more advance.

All I can say to what the difference is: pressure pad.

If you want something the same look at the PS?? I am not sure what you mean on that. Do you mean they have the same amount of power (if so you’re wrong), they actually look the same? (if so you’re wrong) or what did you mean?

Ant said: “You know, Rare aren't Gods”. True they are not gods; just a games company that produce some excellent games for the N64 and will do for the Gamecube. Fair enough not EVERYONE loves them, but I for one do.

“You can't really judge Rare Ant when you thought that Rare made Mario...” Yeah, how silly can you get. I think everyone on this planet knows that Sony made all the Mario games! ;)

Here is my opportunity to put in my Goldeneye/Perfect Dark vs TimeSplitters argument.

I wasn`t going to say this because I thought it might hurt too many people`s feelings in the FOG, but here goes anyway:

I went to a friends. I took my PS2. He had an N64. The two consoles aren`t easily comparable because N64 is an old unsuccessful console where as the PS2 is new, and full of potential, but I can compare TimeSplitters and PD.

We started on multiplayer TimeSplitters. We didn`t stop for a couple of hours. Then the Nintendo owning guy said, anyway, enough of this Sony rubbish, lets play a game from one of the best developers around : Rare!

At this point the N64 owner has a huge smile on his face, and the PS2 owner (me) is annoyed at having to turn off the PS2, and wondering why the N64 owner doesn`t realise that TimeSplitters is made by a break away group of Rare.

We then start some PD, and this is the hilarious part. We stopped after about quarter of an hour, and went back to TimeSplitters, because even the N64 owner had to admit that PD (with expansion pack) was not coping with 4 players and 4 simulants, and was suffering from slow down, and this in comparison to TimeSplitters made it impossible to play.

So, back to TimeSplitters, whilst the N64 owner makes excuses about the console not being warm enough yet etc...

Anyway, my point is that though Goldeneye and Perfect Dark may have had a slightly better single player mode, the part that is actually fun to do (the multiplayer) was a total let down in comparison to TimeSplitters.

So, don`t make out that Rare are Gods, they aren`t, and it seems that they may have lost some of their best creators in the form of David Doak and co at Free Radical.

I think you're right Grix, to an extent.

Perhaps its that if these people who believe strongly that they are allowed to get away with playing games because they are still seen as cool, due partly to the blood and gore. When they see that Nintendo has games that involve animals and happy smiley people, they feel threatened that their games playing may not be seen to live up to its cool status anymore.

People who have lived through the days before PS and ever more violent games, know that a game doesn't have to feature war torn scenes of bloodshed to match those of Saving Private Ryan, or big scary aliens that will tear your head off as soon as look at you, to be any good. They are unthreatened by the status of their gamesplaying as they are often comfortable and adjusted enough to put up with other people's attitude and they also have freinds that won't judge them so much on one small thing.
