it may only be a relatively small matter, but i feel this typifies some fundamental differences between how most nations should be run and how most ARE run.

a week ago a 2nd-hand submarine that was sold by the UK to canada suffered a fire and killed a crewman, which has led to speculation that canada may sue the UK over it's condition.

a quote from (Canadian defense minister) Bill Graham :
"once we have the facts we can all make our decisions. We're a great ally of the UK, we work together on many fronts and we will work this out as friends do"

... so no threats of bombing, no boycotting products, generally no petty recrimination or snide press releases, instead we are given a reasonable and pragmatic response.
other nations take note....

Come on Lucy you honestly expect people to form opinions on other countries using facts and experiences instead of stereotypes?

That's just crazy talk :-D

Tis funny how people get all teary-eyed about other nations, yet hate the same feeling for 'their' own. I don't give a toss which country I'm in, as long as it's not repressive and ugly.

Exactly, you'd think the English fans have a bit of respect for their neighbours :S

What's even more ironic is that the England anthem is actually the British National Anthem. England's real one is the Pomp and Circumstance march, I think.
