Toy Story Sequels
Further adventures of Woody and Buzz?

October 06, 2004 - Disney CEO Michael Eisner has revealed that the company will create two additional installments in the Toy Story franchise. NY Newsday has a report from a Goldman Sachs investment conference in Manhattan where Eisner said, "We're doing two 'Toy Stories' at once."

The partnership between Disney and Pixar terminates after the release of Cars in 2005, and the Mouse will be free to make sequels of their own.

A Disney spokeswoman expanded on Eisner's comments, telling the paper, "They're working on different story ideas with the hopes there will be a Toy Story 3 and another after that." A Pixar spokeswoman declined to comment.

Online reports have hinted that the story for the sequel(s) may be derived from the ending of the original treatment for Toy Story, which tells what happens to the toys when Andy grows up. In the original treatment, the toys find a permanent home in a preschool, where there will always be children to play with.

I've been reading a lot about the Pixar and Disney thing. I think Disney wanted to do a sequel to Toy Story and Pixar wanted to make it part of the 5 movie deal but Disney found a loop hole where they could get it done and still have their 5 movies. Of course Pixar did the movie anyway because they were still new but they really werent happy about it. Steve Jobs CEO of both Pixar and Apple computers really hates Michael Eisner. Steve Jobs wants Disney to distribute the Pixar films as he hasnt talked with any of the other big companies yet and with Michael Eisner stepping down after the final Pixar-Disney film in 2006 it's the perfect chance for Disney to try and get Pixar back.

I think the deal was Pixar and Disney would split production costs. Disney would handle all the distribution and would receive over 60% of the profits as well as the rights to all the films. So of course when it came to doing a new contract, things were going to be different. Pixar wanted to own all their new films, they wanted to pay all the production costs, Disney would get 10% profits and get to use the films in their Parks and still handle all the merchandise/distribution etc. Of course Michael Eisner said no straight away, he wanted a lot more and to own the films.

If Disney wanted to do a sequel to Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredible and Cars. They could easily go over Pixars head and do it anyway. They have their own apartment now their own little Pixar that has already made one CGI film, something about a chicken can't remember. So I wouldnt be suprised if there are sequels to all those films listed above. Still I wouldnt think Tom Hanks would want to do two more films.

Another thing I believe the guy who's CEO of Dreamworks also hates Michael Eisner with a passion. He's really caused a lot of problems. I like how both Dreamworks and Pixar are run by old Disney employees. Michael Eisner helping to create his own competition.

Dreamworks are producing the new Wallace & Gromit movie, though Aardman are still making it, can't wait to see it :)

Creating a sequel for any classic film is a mistake unless the film was meant to come in two or more parts; Kill Bill, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc. If you've got a film that was a landmark at its time of release, you are going to be unable to recreate the original magic because it was originality that made the original so great.

i hope they don't do this. Toy Story is a landmark in CG movies and doesn't desefrve to have it's reputation tarnished by half-assed sequals.

last i heard, Disney were making this with no help from Pixar, which seems like a mistake to me.... we shall see.

in the meantime, the Incredibles should be out fairly soon shouldn't it? :)

Disney originally planned on doing the sequel. But realising it was gonna suck, Pixar stepped in and made it all good again.

Toy Story 2 was excellent, sure that song was annoying but how you can say it wasn't watchable I really can't imagine.

Nah, the original was the best.

The sequel just wasn't that watchable. And it had the annoying song with the cowgirl in.

not really, Toy Story 2 was made by Pixar although it wasnt part of the 5 movie deal. These next lot I'm assuming will have nothing to do with Pixar at all. Still the sequel worked but can a 3rd and 4th by a different studio still pull it off.

If it ain't Pixar, it ain't worth it. Mind you, I'm sure there was the exact same response when they announced the first sequel, and it was better than the original.

The way to solve this is to not watch the sequels and then your childhood memories of such films shan't be tarnished. I haven't seen The Jungle Book 2 or The Lion King 2 but I loved the originals when I first saw them.

They've already done a sequel where can you go from there? One of the things is the people who made the first two arent the same people who'll be making these. So you have no idea what they'll be like, they might be okay they might be terrible either way as Pixar have nothing to do with them fans would rather leave the story alone rather than let Disney milk it for as much money as possible. Expect the same with other films especially Findinger Nemo and The Incredibles
