Tomorrow I have to complete my first piece of French GCSE coursework. Can't say I'm looking forward to it but it has to be done. Unfortunately for me though, I'm still in year 10 but a few of us have been put in an advanced class and we're lucky enough to do it well before everyone else and, because I'm in a grammar school, I'm expected to end up with at least an A. Can't use a dictionary in it either! Woe is me.

You're American? Thought you were from Wolverhampton or thereabouts.

That was in addition to the "they should learn ours, not us learn theirs" speech below.

Had to learn both French and German for my GCSE's, well i say had to learn i usually just skipped both of those lessons to go play basketball in the gym. Still got a couple of C's from them though so meh.

Was never interested in learning either language, i don't plan on going to Germany and i sure as hell don't plan on going to France again. Now if they had offered languages such as Spanish or Japanese i probably would have gone to the lessons and taken an interest

I can learn French - I know some.

Trouble is, we're hardly immersed in a French-dominated Western society, are we?

The net, films, music - popular culture in general is in English.

Totally agree, unfortunately foreign languages were non-existent at my old school, and compulsory at my current one.
