Well, today I got Shadow Of Memories. I now have 6 PS2 games. I looked at them, and then thought, "How many are sequels??"
So, I have:
F1 World Championship Season 2000- This isn't really a sequel. I'm an F1 game, so I decided to get the first PS2 F1 game. Every console has an F1 game. Most do anyway.
Smuggler's Run: NOT a sequel.
Tekken Tag Tournament: Okay, this is a sequel, but it's on a different console, and has nice new name. Better than 'Tekken 4' anyway.
Star Wars Starfighter: NOT a sequel.
Shadow Of Memories: NOT a sequel.
Zone Of The Enders: NOT a sequel, and it is also my second favourite game ever.
Now, I believe people such as Wookiee, ssxpro and M16 will back me up on this with the games they have. I mean, that's not exactly 'lots' of sequels, is it??
Thanks for reading, Ant.
It even uses the same pads/accessories as the PS1 and plays all the old games too. It's got one or 2 nice features but it's basically a PS1 with an upgraded chipset, modem and DVD player.
The Gamecube has been started from scratch.
Completely new chipset, new pads, new accesories and much more new ideas. It's been designed for a newer market with a unique type of disk, instead of the older cartriges.
It's got a brand new name, it's going for a brand new look.
The only way it's similar to the N64 is that Nintendo has made it.
Sony on the otherhand has simply made a better Playstation.
That's not a bad thing neccesarily but it's a sequel. A sequel to a console that was filled with sequels and while a lot of the good PS2 games are original, there's a thousand sequels among them.
The Gamecube on the other hand has one or 2 sequels (quality MGS2 style sequels instead of the average PS sequel) and lots of original games too.
And because the PSOne was so popular, people have already played the PS2's prequels too death while the Gamecubes prequels on the N64 aren't that well known to the average gamer so they seem more original.
I've gone a bit haven't it... :-)
Sega Milk Sonic, Ecco, Virtua Fighter, etc.
Sony have their titles too which have been mentioned below. At the end of day, if a title is successful (or even complete poo in the case of Army Men), companies will always push more and more of it onto the shelves because it makes money. Some take time to make real changes whereas others will throw in a new fireball and con the hell out of us the gamers.
No console is innocent of such a thing and will this continue ? Of course it will.

Some people could see the PS2 as a seqel to PSone or something!!
I don't know!!
Wipeout Fusion seems to have disappeared off the face of the

I think PSM2 had it down for September.
As for the comment by Dan_uk.
Sequels. The first can be good, often very successful. The second iis often the best. For example Empire Strikes Back, Tomb Raider 2, WipeOut 2097.... however, after the second, things start to go bad. For example, with Nintendo, the N64 was a failure, being as it was sequel to a sequel to a... so how bad will the Gamecube be?
To use that argument, you`d put X-box and PS2 at the top with the Gamecube trailing. Funny, I think it may just turn out that way anyway.

It even follows the trend of sequels.

Yes, I know that

Surely the GameCube is a sequel as well??
Yes, it has a new name and new controller, but surely it's just an update of the N64, with new technology.
Just like the PS2 is an update of the PSOne, with new technology.
Also, I like the fact that the controllers are the same! It means I don't have to buy more than one, because I already have 3 PSX Controllers!!
Also, I agree with Wookiee and ssxpro. There's nothing wrong with sequels, as long as they don't bring 5 out on one console (Tomb Raider)
I'm an F1 game, so I decided to get the first PS2 F1 game.
I thought you were an Ant, or a human, never thought you would turn out to be an F1 game!
It even follows the trend of sequels.
It's been over hyped to death based on how good the original was, Sony has rushed it to get it out on the shelves, the were shortages but the most important way it follows the sequel suit:
It may have new features (DVD) better graphics and a nice new box but there's no way it'll make the same impact as it's prequel did.
Yes, I know that I am incredibly biased against the PS2 but this is still a good and accurate point.
And with the PSOne being filled with sequels and the PS2 actually BEING a sequel, now you know where that stereotype has come from.
Tony Hawks 2 has to be the best sequl ever.
But Dead or Alive 2 also rocks
As does MDK2
And Quake 3
So is Sega Rally 2
And V-Rally 2
Like wise Powerstone 2.
I think thats all the sequels i have, but i bet i have more.
