How about James Dean Bradfield of the Manic Street Preachers.

Granted, some of the later songs have been simple, but if you look at a song like Motorcycle Emptiness, it show's his skill.

One listen to Texas Flood and few would disagree. I tried the whole really high action and thick strings once. Sooo didn't work for me.

SRV is probably my favourite guitarist, but I'm not sure he was around long enough to acquire legendary status. He sure as hell played like no one else though. (Ok, maybe Albert King on the string bends!)

BB King is a legend I suppose. Chuck Berry wasn't exactly slow. Keef - a great undoubtedly, but not my kind of player. Stevie Ray Vaughn deserves a mention as well.

Acquire Eruption, Ain't Talking 'Bout Love, You Really Got Me and Spanish Fly. They are the ones that spring to mind first as being sensational.
