I expect there are a lot of people out there who can't wait for the PS2 to go online, being able to play all of those glorius games over the internet. But its taking a long time to get here and will it be worth the wait. Well, hopefully, it should be. And hopefully, there will be a lot of class games to support it.

At the moment, only one console is able to access the internet, with games being able to be played online and that is Sega's Dreamcast, a console which Sega has now, sadly, halted production. The DC has quite a few good games that are capable being played on the internet. Phantasy Star Online would be a brilliant example. An online RPG, where anyone can log on and join in at anytime, to play with other people over the net, and play through the RPG together. And they don't have to live in Britain, as people from as far as Japan can log on and a special translation programme will translate the Japanese language for you. A truly revolutionary game.
Of course, one of the main problems that the games had was lag. Chu Chu Rocket, DC's first online game, suffered quite badly from lag and other games also suffered from lag.

But hopefully, with Broadband, the PS2 won't suffer from this. But there is one more problem. Would someone be willing to pay 40 quid for one game and also pay the internet costs aswell.

Lets just that the PS2's online future goes well.

Getting off the online gaming subject a little, what about the hard drive. It will come with the broadband adapter (so I've heard). Does the prospect of downloading saves, demos, cheats and possibly games and more, appeal to you.
What do you think about the hard drive? Will it help the PS2 (apparently, it will be able to make the games look better)? Can it be a successful add on?

I play UT online, but I have to shoot two seconds before the person walks into my line of fire for me to hit them. I've got to be careful of shooting myself in the back as well.

Knappa, lag will never disappear completely, it will just reduce to levels where we can't notice it.

I know it's practically the same thing but, hey, im just being picky!

I agree, lag is annoying. But hopefully, online gaming will improve and the lagging will hopefully, eventually, cease to exist.

My favourite online game was and is GTA, I think it's a class game, and although when I played Grix he whopped me senseless, I stil llike it, but the lag is annoying and is really annoying, but it's not really noticed when in chase.

fogmaster: Counter-Strike. go buy.

Personally, I hate lag on any game (especially FPS's like UT, more noticable in CS though). I think it depends on how much you play the game - if you're comletely new to it, and still learning, you may not notice too much, whereas if you play it frequently and improve your reactions it becomes much more evident, and annoying.

I hope that it is brilliant, and some brilliant onlin games come out as well.

I love playing games online; Half Life, Red Alert 2 and Unreal tournament probably being the games I played most online.

Lets just hope the games that come out do online gaming justice.

The lag in Chu chu rocket was built into the the game. Sound strange? Well, it's a game that requires fair timing for everyone. In a game like UT a bit of lag doesnt make too mucj difference, however with Chu Chu it is a big factor. Sega built in a 1 second lag so everyone was the same and no-one had an advantage.

Secondly, if the PS2's net connection is a broad band adapter, which i believe to be the case, i don't think that many people will play online. Simply because of the costs involved. To start with you need an ethernet connection in your house, one from NTL is £25 a month, on top of the £16.99 you have to pay for the standard package. Over £40 per month to play online games? Seems a little steep to me. Also, will Sony charge anything for it?
