At the moment, only one console is able to access the internet, with games being able to be played online and that is Sega's Dreamcast, a console which Sega has now, sadly, halted production. The DC has quite a few good games that are capable being played on the internet. Phantasy Star Online would be a brilliant example. An online RPG, where anyone can log on and join in at anytime, to play with other people over the net, and play through the RPG together. And they don't have to live in Britain, as people from as far as Japan can log on and a special translation programme will translate the Japanese language for you. A truly revolutionary game.
Of course, one of the main problems that the games had was lag. Chu Chu Rocket, DC's first online game, suffered quite badly from lag and other games also suffered from lag.
But hopefully, with Broadband, the PS2 won't suffer from this. But there is one more problem. Would someone be willing to pay 40 quid for one game and also pay the internet costs aswell.
Lets just that the PS2's online future goes well.

Howd ya shoot yerself in t' back anyways.
Did you know that there is an Unreal Tournament 2, in development for the PC...I think!!!
What do you think about the hard drive? Will it help the PS2 (apparently, it will be able to make the games look better)? Can it be a successful add on?
I know it's practically the same thing but, hey, im just being picky!

I agree, lag is annoying. But hopefully, online gaming will improve and the lagging will hopefully, eventually, cease to exist.

I think it depends on how much you play the game - if you're comletely new to it, and still learning, you may not notice too much, whereas if you play it frequently and improve your reactions it becomes much more evident, and annoying.
Secondly, if the PS2's net connection is a broad band adapter, which i believe to be the case, i don't think that many people will play online. Simply because of the costs involved. To start with you need an ethernet connection in your house, one from NTL is £25 a month, on top of the £16.99 you have to pay for the standard package. Over £40 per month to play online games? Seems a little steep to me. Also, will Sony charge anything for it?
