I expect there are a lot of people out there who can't wait for the PS2 to go online, being able to play all of those glorius games over the internet. But its taking a long time to get here and will it be worth the wait. Well, hopefully, it should be. And hopefully, there will be a lot of class games to support it.

At the moment, only one console is able to access the internet, with games being able to be played online and that is Sega's Dreamcast, a console which Sega has now, sadly, halted production. The DC has quite a few good games that are capable being played on the internet. Phantasy Star Online would be a brilliant example. An online RPG, where anyone can log on and join in at anytime, to play with other people over the net, and play through the RPG together. And they don't have to live in Britain, as people from as far as Japan can log on and a special translation programme will translate the Japanese language for you. A truly revolutionary game.
Of course, one of the main problems that the games had was lag. Chu Chu Rocket, DC's first online game, suffered quite badly from lag and other games also suffered from lag.

But hopefully, with Broadband, the PS2 won't suffer from this. But there is one more problem. Would someone be willing to pay 40 quid for one game and also pay the internet costs aswell.

Lets just that the PS2's online future goes well.

The GameCube's broadband will be an advantage but it needs to be in the package when it comes out.

Again, popular misconception. Only a handful of states provide free internet access, which usually comes as part of their telephone service connection on certain service providers.

Not only is Broadband going to be a problem as far as cost, but a lot of people won't have the choice of getting it, even if they could afford it.

The UK is notable for it's lack of technology when it comes to phone lines, only in cities and large towns are there all the options for online access. This could mean that Sony will be shooting themselves in the foot unless they bring out both a broadband and 56k modem side by side. You know it makes sense Sony!

Just as you are sitting there thinking 'bloody Americans have it so good' there are plenty of states over there that are still without these options too, it's just that we hear about the larger ones more often as this is where the technology takes off and sells better.

When there is broadband everywhere, and affordable broadband at that, then the time will be right for someone to incorporate broadband only access into their consoles.
