Okee doke. This is getting pretty ridiculous now..
I've spent the last 7 hours.. yers, 7, trying to sort out this frickin' brand new computer.
Arrived yesterday, nice & shiny and stuff. Beauty.

Ah, but what's the problem, you say?

Okee.
Stupidly enough, family were so eager to get on it while I was out. Nothing was installed on it - no Norton.. So they browsed the Internet with no frickin' protection!! Boy, I'm angry.

Anyhoo.

Now the thing is infected with a shed-load of viruses and spyware.. :(

The question is pretty simple, the answer probably is too..
When scanning with Norton Antivirus, it shows a different amount of viruses every single time. At first it was 6, then 11, then 7 and so on. Only problem is, is that I can't delete these viruses! It will only delete 1 or 2 at a time.

Some of the stuff that's coming up are:
sui.exe
delupdat.exe
istactivex.dll
winad[1].exe
winclt[1].exe
bloodhound.packed
spyware.iwantsearch
Adware.Keenval
dialer.target eek!!

..and plenty more. I never knew Adware could be a virus.. :) I need some explaining to.

So.. it obviously messed the computer up because it wouldn't let me download a few things earlier. Stuff like SpyBot Search & Destroy. It's probably a bad program but anything would've helped! It would also close the Internet Explorer on a lot of the 'spyware remover' websites. All other sites were fine! It's like it knew.. Even when I did download something decent, the install screen would only stay for a few seconds then close itself. It did it with everything I tried to install.

PestPatrol has been a real helper. But now that's started playing up..

So.. anybody care to help with the 'why can't I delete the viruses?'?
I'll love you forever.
Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!

Nope, if you've got a virus, that will be saved in your System Restore and AV programs can't clean this because it's always in use. Therefore you have to turn off System Restore to delete all your Restore points, then turn it on again.

Good point..! 2 boxes did pop up, but I was too quick and closed them. Must've said it deleted it or something. Hope so!

Instead of starting a fresh topic, thought I'd budge this one back up.. ;)

Found a new virus.. Norton just popped up saying a virus had been detected and couldn't be repaired.
Thing is, I've done 2 full virus scans and run SpyBot S+D plenty of times and updated the virus definitions, but nothing's been found.
It's called Trojan.StartPage and landed in my Local Settings in the Temporary Internet Files folder supposedly called fav[1].exe

Any idea why Antivirus isn't finding it?? Thankee :)

Oh.. and another quick question! When you set your computer back to a restore point, does it get rid of new stuff? Like a virus? Thankyou, again ;)

Haha, I thought that but he would never admit to that.

Heh. Alienware laptops are rather popular I've heard.

Thing is, most E-Bay account hijacking isn't virus/trojan related - it's those emails you get sent asking you to put your E-Bay details in. The giveaway is if you look at the link they provide, it's something like [email protected] - so it's not really going to E-Bay but to a scammer's site. Yet people still fall for this.

At the end of the day, I think the worse eBay can do is end your account if you don't pay, if it were to get that far. But I expect once they find the account has been breached, they'll shut it down and any auctions and sales linked to it.

Quite the vigilante :D

I think it's possible for the seller to remove bids though, so watch for that... I think it's also possible to completely cut out the winner and sell to the second highest bidder too.

All the same, good luck with it!
