Anyone know one for XP Service Pack 2? For some reason it isn't appearing in Windows Update. Tried Microsoft.com but they only have the network edition for programmers.

Cheers.

hmm I'll give it a try, thanks. The day before it worked fine then broke after installation. It was a risk that I took because was getting addictive but still missed killing all those axis/nazis.

That's more graphics related than SP2 related. Glide was an old technology akin to DirectX if I remember correctly, by 3DFX before Nvidia bought them. Look for other drivers.

I installed the Service Pack and then the free game I play all the time wouldnt work. Didnt know how to uninstall it so now I can never play it again :(

Something about

failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT
GLW_StarOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

Warning: Missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available
Shutting down QGL

Sims 2 works fine, maybe has something to do with Enemy Territory using a lower resolution 800x600 I think.

Had a quick poke about, and it's actually to do with IIS5 which can only handle 10 simultaneous connection at one time which happens to ship with XP Pro/W2K and NT! This has always been the crappy case with IIS until they released IIS6 on w2k3 which handles a lot more.

SO in effect, this issue is more server related than how many p2p networks you can connect to at once!:)

The 10 connections thing may have been related to the maximum number of connections you can make to NT, 2000 or XP without it being a server operating system. Although there are ways round that, as FAD farmers know.

I've finally managed to install SP2. It was ZoneAlarm causing the problems. I could boot up in Safe Mode but not Normal mode. So I booted up in Safe, disabled ZoneAlarm from booting, then it booted fine normally. So I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and am going to reinstall it.

On 1Mb but disable auto update as I regular check for updates and dont really want it updating without my knowledge.

The 10 connections I heard about and saw people having problems with were for the cracked versions of SP2 which were out before SP2 was available from the update site.

I believe Apple's next offering will be quite spectacular in terms of advances in technology. Microsoft dropping its "WinFS" filesystem was a big mistake, because I believe the next rendition of OSX will contain a database driven file system.

I was looking into this last night and from what I can see, by disabling the auto update, it shoudl prevent this, though again, I wouldn't bother unless your on a 56k. Too much of the press around SP2 is negative just because it's Microsoft when in fact, XP was never meant to get any service packs after SP1, so M$ did actually address issues raised over the last 2 years and provided us with SP2.

One thing I have decided is to ditch windows completly in a couple of years. Longhorn looks totally pointless now that they have dropped over 50% of it's features to rush it out on time and Palladian (sp?) is set to kill off Open Source. I'm off to OSX full time once Ihave the funds.

Not true... I had 37 connections at once on Shareaza last night.

Even if auto update is disabled? One thing I heard is that the number of connections at once to XP SP2 is 10 so p2p networks are screwed.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
