Consoles are dying… The next generation systems will probably be the last generation of consoles to be produced for about 10 years. Though fantastic machines coming packaged with custom chips, innovative design, even with a company philosophy. People hold to their consoles as adamantly as they will hold true to their football teams…
Consoles are limited, ultra-safe machines. Once the newest gen console has been brought, little can be done with them that could not be done with the previous range. It may have nicer graphics, but at the end of the day, the limitations of the machines input and output capabilities make it unable to adequately handle Gaming Genres that are universally considered standard game types. The PC has born, raised and killed many a genre that never saw the light of day on a console (not because of lack of system spec… but because of lack of input spec)
The Future…
Well… It all happened in the eighties… and it’s on the middle of happening now… consoles are changing… evolving… And… Even though Sony claim their strategy is to develop the complete ‘entertainment system’ … All consoles are converting back to their computer roots…
Its important to note here… that I don’t mean consoles are becoming IBM style PC’s…
I mean it to be closer to the more dramatic evolution from Atari to Spectrum, Intellivision to C64…
The difference between primarily gaming computers and IBM PC’s is slight… theoretically there may be no difference at all… but to anyone who participated in the 8-bit/16-bit era, the difference between their machines and IBM PC’s is a very large and very obvious.
This change can be seen to be beginning already… with Keyboards, Mice, Hard drives all being released for consoles… coming as standard to consoles, etc…
Well… almost… Nintendo with their GC seem to be sticking to the gaming style of old… their not adding mice, Hard Drives…
Is this philosophy completely foolish or inspirational genius?
Well… to be honest… I don’t have a clue… but I really hope they do…???
What would you rather play… for the sake of comparison… imagine the PS and X-Box become the equivalent of the current iMacs,
Would you prefer?
iMac : costing 299.99 and has 10-30 games released per month
GC : costing ??? 150? And has 10-30 games released per month
> Nintendo are best, Sony cant even make games, they just get other
> prople to make a console, put their name on it a viola!
What does a musical instrument have to do with Sony?
MGS2 will be good but it won't even compete with the next Mario...
PS2's are rubbish, I hate Survival Horrors, no-one should be allowed to play them!
:D
Game
I'm just waiting for the console wars discussion to start up :)
> ps3,already
Why do I get the feeling the original post wasn't read in its entirety? :-)
