Maybe. :P
Actually I did find one website. They said to click a link and allow vbasic to run or something and then you had their icon on your desktop. Suppose I'll just keep searching.
Don't suppose anyone's created a tag cloud before?
Multi resolution favicon http://www.hmmm.ip3.co.uk/favicon/
The 16x16 version will be displayed in a browser.
The 32x32 version will be displayed if it's placed on the desktop.
[to put the icon on your desktop just drag the icon from the address bar in your browser directly on to the desktop. This also creates a shortcut to the website]
Google for 'Multi resolution favicon'(no quotes) for lots more info...
While I wouldn't know how to do this myself (I don't have Visual Studio, the Borland Delphi package, etc, so can't create .exe files) you could probably just create an executable file (a program in itself), which self contains it's own icon, and have it open up the users browser to the web address you want.
But, like Garin asked, why would you want to? Isn't that what the built-in favorites feature is for :)
How is the site coming along?
Anyway I'll be busy tonight, yesterday I came across a nice digg, over 300 nicely designed websites collected on a flickr page. My god I felt like a kid in some kind of a store. I'm taking a look at all of them to see if they have anything nice that might inspire me =) got some nice layouts and graphics.
The link itself will work as thats a url, but the icon comes from a local file so that wont.
