Reading one of the sunday rags today and came across the story of David Gill telling Fergie that there is no cash available to buy new players. Now i know the United board are tighter then a Jewish Scot so shouldn't come as a surprise but what? How in the hell do United, one of the richest clubs in the world (mainly because we hardly bloody spend anything on the levels of the rest of the major teams) become unable to be able to buy players because they're a bit skint?

Incase the idiot Gill hasn't realised it yet there's a kind of injury crisis going on at United at the moment, last time i checked we were calling up the young superstar from our kindergarten team, and we still haven't got a creative midfielder which is very much needed. Had we actually got one which i said we should have all pre-season then Giggsy could have played behind Smith in that bloomin 4-4-1-1 Fergie loves so much and the problem wouldn't be so bad. But because the very thought of spending the cash makes the board members cower behind their desks here we are, using O'Shea in the centre of midfield and putting Smithy in goal (well maybe not that bad)

Already we're playing catch up and unless the players suddenly heal miraculously in the next couple of days we'll probably drop a few more points as well (a 2-1 win over Norwich is not good enough) so cut the crap Gill, get that chequebook out and buy somebody, hell get yourself a striker and a midfielder and then United may stand a chance this season, until then it's going to either Arsenal or Chelsea.

God the sooner the Tampa Bay Bucs owner buys all the shares the better.

Not really seeing as everyone knows United have cash, it isn't exactly the best kept secret we're one of the richest clubs in the world so Gill saying 'oh actually we have no money' doesn't make a fat bit of use

Well, i think its better than saying "wahey, we got a basement full of money ready to be ripped off!!!2113!"

Makes business sense to keep your cards to yourself so to speak.

Well apparently United have joined in the bidding for Rooney. WOW!! where has this money suddenly appeared from Mr Gill. Has the money fairy visited Old Trafford and given you a pot of cash? Because it was only a few days ago you said there was no money at all. Could it be that *shock* you lied your face off? Surely not

I don't believe any of the crap Gill's telling us either - and I never have done.

If it was there a month ago - and, granted, we actually spent very-little compared with other season - where on Earth is it all now?

The Sun (...) have today reported that Sir Alex Ferguson has bid £5m for Luis Figo, and that our executives are flying out there today...

Don't they ever pay attention to what's really going on in the world around them??? This is why I can't stand - let alone understand - why people actually bother reading this 'paper (and yes, I have seen people read it!)

If there's no money available, there's gonna be no Luis Figo!
It's not like we even have any holes in our midfield with Ronaldo returning anyway - it's all in the attack, if anywhere, for now. :@

Honestly, where do they get it from?!?

It's because Mau U is made up of many many different share holders. Therefore the money from every player sold, every ticket sold, every match won etc is divided between these share holders. Therefore Mau U only get a portion of this money to buy players with.

Whereas Chelsea have the main man, so he can do what he likes with it.

yeah most clubs improve, but no teams ivested 30 mill a season really in english football.especilly without losing players first. with the obvious exceptions man utd tend to be a club (to their credit) who hold onto there players for considerable amounts of time and don't really sell much. The italian system is far more of a transfer merry go round and it is common place to have large transfers but the big names swithch italian clubs with more regularity. Madrid are the only true example of a club who sustain heavy expenditure every summer with less outgoings.

you also have to remember Man utd are also looking to the future they have a young squad, and also far less likelyhood of sucess. there is a chance that man utd won't win the league for over ten years if they fail again this year (roy keane's words not mine). and although you might say they need to strengthen now to avoid this, they also need to plan for a sustainable future. One in which every pliable kid doesn't immediately choose man utd as their glory club or the prawn sandwich brigade decide that west and north london are more attractive places to munch their sandwiches. Ok that is a huge way off and not really a factor in their budgetting but it may be in years to come.

I suspect the truth however is that they are hoping they have what it takes, to keep with the big 2 till xmas, then check exactly what they need which as we all know will be a DMC minimum.

Maybe so but 2 years is a long time in football though. Every team is constantly trying to improve and bring in new talent to go one better then last season. The point i'm making is why is Gill lying his ass off saying there's no money for transfers? We generate huge sums of cash each year that dwarf the 30 million we payed for Rio a few years back, just qualifying once for the Champs League gets 2/3 of that sum back.

If, as we should, beat Bucharest on Wednesday, that's 20 million back in the coffers, why can't Fergie then take just 1/2 of that and go buy someone? Why all of a sudden is there no cash around at Old Trafford, especially now we're in the middle of this crisis
