If someone writes the following in a letter, can you be sued?
"Your son is a liar."
If someone writes the following in a letter, can you be sued?
"I believe your son is telling me a pack of lies."
One is fact and one is opinion. I'm under the impression you can't get sued, but my dad thinks otherwise.
Someone clear this up for me please.

I'm guessing it still counts as opinion, because they would just be stating their opinion and then backing it up with some evidence.
Feel free to sue me.

Technically yes although the accuser would have to be more specific about what he was refering to, it's a statement of fact and unless it can be proved otherwise yes he could be sued.

Nope it's opinion and is allowed as a part of free speech of something.
