If someone writes the following in a letter, can you be sued?
"Your son is a liar."
If someone writes the following in a letter, can you be sued?
"I believe your son is telling me a pack of lies."
One is fact and one is opinion. I'm under the impression you can't get sued, but my dad thinks otherwise.
Someone clear this up for me please.

What if I'd said something like:
"What angered me is that he blatantly lied to me."
What if I'd said something like:
"I have yet to receive payment for this, and have been told what I believe are a pack of lies. What angered me is that he blatantly lied to me.
Mermoroid just informed me he isn't anymore.
But still, he should know more than the majority on here.

You can't sue them unless you have proof they are lying, the "i believe" bit is your get out clause to say what you like, although if it was a person they could sue you for defamation of character and emotional damage although it would be thrown out as this isn't america and out law system isn't run by illiterate monkeys in suits, i believe.
See what i did there
yeah thats an opinion DW
That is an opinion...

Can't be sued for an opinion, you could probably avoid being sued for the first one as well if you can prove he is a liar.
