If someone writes the following in a letter, can you be sued?
"Your son is a liar."
If someone writes the following in a letter, can you be sued?
"I believe your son is telling me a pack of lies."
One is fact and one is opinion. I'm under the impression you can't get sued, but my dad thinks otherwise.
Someone clear this up for me please.

What?1?1?!?!?!
You can't be sued if you plainly say "look your son won one of my items on ebay and refuses to pay despite it being a binding contract to purchase the item".
I would just ignore your dad.

It is about eBay...they haven't threatened to sue, but I sent a letter to his parents (he's a 13 year old, he posts on my other forums) and haven't had a reply. I'm hoping they just threw the letter in the bin, but I dunno. My dad says it would be cheap for them to take me to court over this letter. The auction in question is only to the value of £30, but I need the money and so the only way I'm gunna get the money is via his parents.
He's already stated to me that he's not gunna pay for it, despite me letting him know the eBay binding contract.
I included five emails. The first, he said he didn't know how to pay via eBay. The second he said his dad had blocked his access to HIS own PayPal account. Then he told me he had already bought the item for cheaper, and to relist it. Then he told me to make it cheaper and he'll pay. Now he's saying he can't afford it.
I am clearly in the right. If I relist the item, it won't even sell for £5. I know this for a fact.

He could apply to get legal aid but would get turned down, being called a liar isn't much really and you would have to show damages, so yes Memo is right, he'd have to be a moron to even think about it.
