If (in the first Back to the future) einstein (the dog) is the first time traveller, during doc browns experiment, and einstein disappears for 1 minute, in the delorean. He re-appears as marty and the doc both jump out of the way, apparently, having skipped a whole minute .... why then, in the second film, does marty, when he travels into the future, with doc brown, see a future version of himself and a future version of his bird, jennifer, living out their lives, as though they were separate people?

It's always bothered me

The greatest time travel film I have yet seen is the one I watched last night. Unfortunately it won't be released for another 43 years, so you'll just have to wait until then to discover the title. Head down and sprinting clout berries!

They should have remade BttF 1 when they decided to make sequels, that way you'd be able to spot Future Marty and Future Doc running around at random points if you paid enough attention.

I see what you mean about the gravestone and letter etc. The young doc from 1965 would know about it and remember it for the next 20 years so would know that marty was coming to rescue him.

Although, I always got the feeling in the BTTF films that the Doc knew someting that we didnt, as though he'd gone ahead a little bit further and knew what was happening, but didnt tell marty. A good example of this is in the first film where he has the bullet proof vest on. For the whole introduction in the carpak he knew he was about to be shot but he did, he also knew that marty was about to get sent back in time and knew the whole story of what was about to happen to him but he lets it all happen to maintain the space time contin-you-um (obvuois sp?). Just before he sends marty back at the end of the first film, he says he cant wait for 20 years so he can talk about the events of that night. 60's doc would then seek out marty and befriend him knowing what would happen in the future but wouldnt actually tell him.

You could possibly aplly this to your problem from number 3.

Because he goes back to the apst and lives his life from there on, he doesn't stay in the future like Einstein did.

The real question is, since Marty goes to the past, and does stuff invloving the doc, would teh doc not remember it in teh first place?
Like in thoery, in BttF 3 wouldn't the doc that's sent to the past at the end of BttF 2 remember getting the letter saying what happened when he was hit by lightning, and wouldn't he remember seeing his own gravestone, so he'd come back?

That's not the kind of thing you forget.....
