Front of the Daily Mail I was reading an article about a lad obsessed with Manhunt, so much so he lured one of his best friends out and killed him with a hammer and knife. Then the idiot got caught by walking around wearing blood-stained clothes and a knapsack full of weapons.

The mother of the victim is now sueing Rockstar Games over Manhunt, which would render Manhunt to be banned in the UK. Manhunt is already banned in New Zealand and a few other countries. This is not the first time the Daily Mail has 'slated' Rockstar for its games, last year they called for Vice City to be banned due to its violent nature.

I think that it takes a certain person to go out after playing Manhunt or Vice City, and go killing them in the same nature. After playing Vice City solid i didn't want to kill people with a chainsaw or become a mob boss. The same goes for Manhunt and other violent games, after finishing Manhunt I didn't feel the need to slaughter one one my mates by stalking them and killing them with a Sainsbury's bag or a glass shard.

Although I thought was this lad had done was evil and horrible, I think it is yet another witch hunt against the games industry becuase the Daily Mail needs someone to point the finger at, because not everyone reacts in a way to this.

Yes. They dressed up like characters from the matrix and gunned their school mates down.

It's not your fault your bladder problems prevent you from keeping it in until you get to the cemetery.

Now would most likely be a good time to put that copy of Manhunt on Ebay, I can see people flocking to buy the game now.

Well all games are based loosely on reality no matter the kind of game, they all include something which is from the 'real' world.

I wouldn't say that Manhunt taps into something that exists - as far as I know no law enforcement agency has ever found a genuine snuff movie, the things are urban legends at best, sick fantasy at worst. Ultimately Manhunt is little different in what must be done to something like Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, except more gratuitous, though at the end of the day the end result - killing computer people - is the same, the motive is different, but still the same result.

Which leads to whether the objections to Manhunt are the killing, or the manner of the killing? Because if it's the killing then line up every other game released. If it's the manner of the killing then that's ridiculous - surely it is wrong to kill regardless of the manner.

The sad truth is that right now there are far more important news events happening - take Darfur in Sudan. Millions will die there, and in the other places around the world which don't even get coverage, but they barely get a few hundred words of text, and the world will watch their screens, like gamers watching theirs, as it happens. If newspapers want a true moral witchhunt they should start closer to home...
