I put a copy of Norton Internet Security onto my computer yesterday and left it updating whilst I was at work. I came home, rebooted and nothing would work.

The desktop loads up fine, and the two norton logos load up in the system tray, but my LAN connection icon doesnt - and also if I try and perform just about any function the computer crashes.

I can't perform a system restore, add/remove programme or anything like that because it crashes when I try to do it. I have tried safe mode, but I cannot remove programs in safe mode, or edit the startup (I dont think).

I have absolutely no idea what the problem is, and likewise no idea what to do about the problem. Any help is going to be hugely appreciated.

I think I'm going to have to format the drive and start over.

Any idea how to format when I cannot actually do anything on the desktop? Ideally using edit startup?

Advice of the Nazi.

1- Try re-installing it.
2- If all else fails, return it and get a refund, or sell it on eBay or to some other idiot and make a profit.
