I got charged with a parking fine a few nights ago, and I'm very displeased because well, there aren't any signs anywhere near where I parked to even say what you had to do (you needed some sort of permit, apparently)

So I've decided to appeal, and I thought I'd share the letter I've written to them with you. I had fun with this.

------------

Dear Sir or Madam,

Unfortunately, I have received a penalty, to which I must pay twenty five pounds on what I believe to be uncertain grounds.

I would like to appeal against the fine by stating of no visible sign which told of the charge and what is demanded by the terms and conditions and what is commanded. The corner that in which I did park had no machine or prices or kindly remarks, of the sticker now needed to be displayed in your car, (which I found out later from a sign from afar).

I drive from Wales to see my friends, (which beats the train to Audley End), and occasionally I like to see, with all my friends, a new movie. The petrol money from my journey reaches quite a hefty sum, and it’s taken really quite a while to save my earnings so I could come. To be charged this fee fills me with rage, for the fine will take almost two day’s wage. I hope you reply in time for me, for I’d work four days for the late paid fifty.

At the time I parked I believe that I’d done nothing wrong to leave my car without a permit, so allow me to submit my plea that there was no sign for me to see, and while with no real or obvious indication, I still must state that no dispensation I did judge. I do mean however to adjudge that the notice’s placed around the park are misplaced and are hard to see, (in night I’d imagine, especially).

The park in question (I had not mentioned) is the closest area near the cinema that one can stop and leave their car without having to walk that far. Can not a simple charge be ordered to make the park (in Bishops Stortford) an easier place to see a movie without having to receive a fee?

Please consider my position and I hope that your volition will take heed my ignorance and my omission in acquisition of the sign, and in addition bare recognition the bad condition of the notices of prohibition for those that may receive a fine.

If whoever reads that has a sense of humour I think you might just get away with it. Go Grix!

If I was working my way throug the same boring old pleas and begs, and I got to this letter, I'd just about give you the money, just for livening up what must be amongst the most mind numbing of jobs in the world. It's little touches like this that make the world go around. Bravo, my friend. Bravo.

My head hurts.

But I think it's more because I'm a bit ill than the letter.

Ah well, I hope you manage to make them feel nautious too.

Heh, good luck on wriggling out of it with your assortment of poetic ways, I can only hope that when you receive your reply, that it pays.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
