I'm still unsure about university courses in general, whether it's my sixth form that havent told us enough or just a big country-wide mystery I do not yet know, but I'm hoping some of you nice people can answer my questions.
First of all, if I major in one subject but take another one (say Journalism with criminology), what would my lessons be like? Would I do more journalism lessons than criminology lessons, or would they be 50/50 and just my mark that is split 75/25 ?
This leads me onto my next point, is it easier to take just one single subject, ie just plain Journalism. Would this mean I had less lessons overall, or would the fact I'm not taking more lessons mean I had to take more classes?
When looking at courses there seem to be the same courses ar different universities, only some courses require different ucas points to get in. Are the higher point courses more lucrative, or will they be much the same?
Moving away from university lectures now, I want to know about student accomodation. Is it better to get on-campus accomodation for the first year and move in with friends after this? Also, it's not been mentioned whether we pay our own electricity bills etc if we stay on campus, or if its covered in the rent or whatever it is we pay.
Is the first year as easy as most people make out it is? In the case that it is easy, would you advise me to get a job during the first year to make up some money towards my debt and take advantage of my free time?
I'm still quite confused about exactly what I want to do in life, but I think journalism could be fun. If I never end up using my degree I still feel I should go to uni just for the experience.
So help me out and post reassuring comments, or add your own angst-filled panick statements - whatever's good for you.

Heh.
Lincoln has the exact course that I want, thats why I seriosuly hope I can get in there.

Come to Sheffield, Lincoln or Chester with me. You can be my sidekick.

All included, you only pay for phone/internet calls.

We had a shower for 7 of us which was fine, not everybody gets up at the same time (different timetables) so there will only be a couple of occasions when it's in use. If it is you just swear a lot outside the door.

Worth it, it's great fun.

There goes another Satanage fan...

Maybe, but this is something I at least want to do for a while, the problem with a lot of graduate schemes is the employer wants you to basically say you will work anywhere in the UK for the foreseeable future, and I don't want that, I want to live in this area because I like it- hence it does limit me a bit, but I'm happy with this and the prospects are good.
Don't, whatever you do, live at home. That defeats the whole point (well, ok, half the point) of going to Uni.
As for single subjects, I took teaching and did English Single. The way it worked for me was that I had 3 years of teaching and went to about half the English classed (2 modules out of 4) for those three years, then did 1 full year of just English. I enjoyed every minute of that course, apart from one tutor who thought he was superior to everyone else and wouldn't listen to anyone else's point of view, especially about poetry.
Anyway, it's a chance to grow and change, it does wonders for most people. Good luck and enjoy it!
I did a REAL late application to uni and am now off this september as long as I get the points (which hopefully ill p*ss all over)
I am hoping to do a joint hons creative writing/drama and stay in halls first yr

> Quinty, will you be starting a journalism course in 2005 too?
Yep, but i'm going to go for a joint degree course with History which kinda limits the number of possible uni's. I'll probably end up going into journalism training or teaching history, not decided yet.
But yeah, Lincoln looks decent and Chester does practically everything you could think of with journalism. Huddersfield looks good as well. Urgh too many choices :-(

Heh. Ta for the tip.
