Some sneaky beggar has devised a way of distributing a virus FROM websites - and somehow it's got on some important banking and retail sites! All you have to do is actually browse the website, and it can get at your PC. So a World-wide warning has been issued not to use Internet Explorer until it's patched, because it's apparently getting everywhere. Although no-one has actually said what websites have been affect yet, so that's why I'm shouting out to see if anyone knows?
I'd say pretty high, look at how many people will move to them now!
It's just like the virus/antivirus conspiracy, where would Norton be without virii and hackers? Nowhere, he's blatently making all the viruses himself just so he can get money for protecting everyone!
you'll have to play with Mozilla/Firefox a little to set it up how you like it, but that's also a good thing. they both come as functioning browsers and from there you can choose to install any extensions that you want to customise it to your choices. so for a coupla hours of tweaking and customising you get a solid reliable and FAR safer browser.
sadly most people fire up mozilla, take one look at it's ugly default theme and go back to IE, only resurfacing every coupla weeks to complain about the latest worm/trojan/virus/security issue that they're having problems with...
and other places....
*switches back to IE*
Ugh. It's terrible. Maybe firefox is better.
but mozilla/firefox are still the safest options for my money.
Firefox especially has just changed quite a lot for 0.9, it's certainly looking like being a nicely deatured and reliable version 1...
that appeal for people not to use IE should carry on. it makes web programmers slack because it accepts vague tags and code, whereas Mozilla/firefox focus more on the W3C guidelines for compatability.
For example; "font-weight" can be subbed for simply "font:" in a CSS and IE will accept it, so anyone who tests their site in IE only will have it looking exactly how they like it, but it'll look like crap on other browsers, personally i like to test my sites on IE/Firefox/Mozilla/Opera (although i have to get a mate to check it with opera, i didn't like it :) ).. even some old Amiga browsers!! :)
