First of all, the majority of all votes went in his favour.
But then, the greater percentage edged over to 'No'.
And now.... Sorry, I don't know!
But, I did "waste" 25p+ on a text message voting in favour of a new spot-kick taker. Someone more accustomed to goal-scoring and driving the ball down the middle - much like Alan Shearer - rather than going for poncey old placement.
To tell you the truth, I've never really understood why he was chosen for any reason other than for the 'BS' and hype Sven-Goran Eriksson buys into, anyway! His free-kicks may be immaculate and he is captain, but does that
make him the ideal choice as "fans' favourite"?
I can't think of a single time he took on for Man. United OUTSIDE of a Charity Shield game. There was that one-time while he was on-loan at Preston a decade ago, and then there was that "Jonny Wilkinson" against Turkey - that's all I can recall before France.
Paul Scholes can really hit them. Michael Owen's our No.1 for finishing. When playing, Frank Lampard's had a 100% record for Chelsea this past season. I'm sure Steven Gerard could do the right thing when called upon. Wayne Rooney's fast-becoming everybody's favourite, and I'm sure even David James would know exactly where to put the ball...
I'm after your opinions on this matter, please. And, at 'no-price-to-pay', I'm after more than just a simple 'Yes' or 'No' answer, thanks.
Should David Beckham still be taking penalty kicks for England?
If not, who would you choose and why?
-----
Also, their are two opinions (as ever in these big games) as to what 'that' actually was.
In your opinion, was it a good save from Fabien Barthez, or, simply, a crap penalty from David Beckham?
As arrogant Englishman who are likely to stand behind their nonced-up Pop Idolic leader, I'd expect the major part of this country to be applauding "Broken-Nose" Barthez for his heroics, whatever the final result.
What do YOU think?

Any penalty saved or missed must be deemed crap. No keeper should be able to save a penalty, therfore it was a crap penalty.

Typical ignorance as usual. He plays in the Scottish league, which granted isn't the best, but he's performed really well in Europe as well when Celtic have played there. And in these matches they are playing better opposition. He had an outstanding match and scored against Barcelona, and has been Celtic's most concistent player in Europe for two years now. And what he offers that Hargreaves, Butt or Dyer don't, is that he is a naturally left-footed player. Which is why England need, a lot.

Honestly though... who is better than David James? He's the best England have got, and that's why he's in the team.

Again, you appear blind. Considering that Larsson has scored more goals in European competition than any other player in British football, ever, I really don't think he still needs to prove himself. For god's sake, world class strikers like Owen, Van Nistelrooy and a handful of others have praised him, and I think they should know. Plus the whole ITV panel the other night. Not enough, no?
Larsson could play in any team in the world and score a bagful of goals each season. The fact he plays for Celtic in Scotland has bagger all to do with anything. You're just looking for pointless reasons to slate an incredible striker.
Though when you mention Rooney, I actually agree. People will come on here after this posting things like "he's too young", "he's not proven" and what have you. I'm sorry, but not only is the kid a relatively decent finisher, but he's fearless. What do you need most when taking a crucial penalty at the highest level, on the highest stage? You want somebody fearless, and so determined that they'd rather se themselves dead than that ball rolling past the post or into the goalies clutches.
Okay, so I went a bit over the top then, but I still agree. ;-P
I've seen him take a few this season, and he's buried them. No messing around. In big games as well. He scored the penalty that beat United 1-0 (Thought I'd add that one in for you Solskjaer,Neo,lalakersrule.... :P)
Beckham shouldn't take them, because when he puts the ball on the spot, he doesn't look like scoring. And it was inevitable that he was gonna miss one sooner or later, and he did it at the worst possible moment.
Yeah so Frankie gets my vote, although I wouldn't mind seeing Rooney take one.....
Hopefully he will drop into the Premiership next season.
Don't forget, Alan Thompson did make his name in the Premiership with Aston Villa, mind.
The only things Svaen makes mistakes with are with James and his persistance to stick with Scholes despite failing to score or look dangerous at all in his last 22 England games.
As for the penalties situation, I would personally give Lampard a bash, sweet striker of the ball.
But no, Sven's an idiot.
