Men are the easiest to buy for. We are usually pleased with the most useless cr*p. Try looking in a gadgety shop or one of the similar websites there are loads of good things to suit all kinds of personalities. I cant really name any of the websites seen as SR sell gadgets but they are easy to find.

Guys will be relatively pleased with anything to do with beer, football or actually probably just beer and football. Whereas women.... there's just no pleasing them with little gifts. Thats why everyone has to go and "splash out" for them.
