I dont like the beach boys, but unfortunatly you are wrong, pet sounds(which i dont like) was the catalyst for the beatles moving into serious music, at the time it was something completely different, being soft and personal and almost childlike and by a male vocal group, they did create that very californian sound, but they moved on breifly, when brian wilson had a breakdown they went back to that sound because they had lost their creator.
And as for Good vibrations, 17 sessions, 6 months, 4 studios and cost more than the whole sargeant pepper album.
It was a huge progression in songwriting.

Pretty correct list in terms of influence and style. However, I think Judas Priest would be a better band for inclusion than the Beach Boys- Priest pretty much changed the face of metal, whereas the Beach Boys, as far as I'm concerned, were just a bunch of surfers who had a few hits and didn't achieve much outside of the USA.
