pop sucks

It doesn't suck as much as your spelling.
> Define pop music.
Something that can be enjoyed by anyone without being part of a social group, can have a serious point to make or be complete nonsense, something that will make you smile, light, breezy, bouncy, joyous and infectious and above all else fun, true pop is the purest form of music.
My example
Be my Baby by the ronettes, brian wilson called it the most perfect pop record of all time and he wasnt bloody wrong.
As far as having to be in a social group to listen to certain types of music... well that's just rubbish.
> Flockhart you just described all music as far as I'm concerned.
Well death metal hardly fits into that catorgory and neither does rap.

Unfortunately it's not, people grow up and they move towards music as a life choice and style, and they move away from pop because it was something they listened to as a kid.
Anyway that wasnt what i said, people find their style of music and they stop listening to everything else, you dont need to be a member of a certain group but it seems to be way for the majority of kids.
Everyone should be able to find one rap and YES one death metal song that they actually quite like.
Hell I don't like Garage or Happy Hardcore but there are a couple of tunes from each that I like, you just have to look deeper into the genre.
PErsonally I like Rock, Grunge, Pop, Classical, Jazz, Film Music, Rap, Heavy Metal, Electronica, Industrial etc.
If anything my tastes in music have broadened as I've gotten older, it'd be sad to be pushed into liking one type of music which would probably suggest a very narrowminded individual who hasn't really looked around the other genres that much.

I agree completely which is why i try not to judge something before i hear it but i have noticed it's becoming more difficult to be open minded, i can see an art in rap but i rarely listen past 30 seconds of most of it now.
I was trying to define pop music, and you basically said that every type of music is pop which i think is nonsense.

sounds like all types of music to me.

Well that is the complete description.
> smile,
I've smiled at many a non-pop song's lyrics.
> light,
Light compared to what? If you normally listen to industrial then most other genre's could be considered 'light' in comparison.
> breezy,
As in speedy? Uplifting? Many forms of music can conjure that up.
> bouncy,
You can bounce/dance to almost anything.
> joyous and infectious and above all else fun,
Oh, just like ANY song someone likes. Even blues is fun to listen to because it makes you feel better.
