Okay, so I need to find somewhere to participate in work experience in the near future and I have very few ideas of what I want to do. I was wondering if anybody on here could reccommend a general activity they did for it, so I could get some ideas, and see how much they enjoyed it (and etc.).

Thanks very much, and I would have put this in general chat but i'd rather get some more intelligent opinions. :-D

fiƒi[oV], you did something you were interested in. Try working 9-5 in the Top Man storeroom by yourself with the same five songs on constant loop for a week or two, and you'll see why everyone should avoid shop work.

I did my work experience in a computer department in a large company. Hated it. Totally and utterly. Put me off working in an IT department for life.

Guess what I do now? Yup. Work in an IT department...........

You would think I would learn eh?

I worked in a shop. On the high street. And I loved it :D

Really depends what the shop is, mine was a PC shop (small, independent), and half the time was flying around country lanes in the engineers' cars on the way to customers to look at broken PCs. The rest of it was either talking to the guys there, who were all great, or doing occasional repairs and PC builds - just try to find out exactly what work you'll be doing. I got lucky, knew nothing about the place before I went there, but have now been working there on Saturdays for 2 years and still (generally) enjoy it. Can't stand computers any more, but damn it's an easy job :D

I'm doing my work shadowing in June, flying over to work in a language school in north Italy. Could be worse ;) and a lot more like what I'm actually interest in doing.

Indeed. I worked at a book retailers for two weeks at work experience. It was honestly one of the most mind numbing experiences of my entire life and has put me off part time work.

Unfortunatly I have an overdraft to pay off over the summer period and as I have no payed work experience I will have to work in a shop. This upsets me to the core of my soul but I will just have to accept this. I don't like the idea of spending my whole summer commiting myself to mind numbing chores but at least this time I have the comfort of knowing that I will be getting paid, hopefully I should be able to pay off any debts and add funds into my savings account.

Anyway, this guy [Mojojojojojojojo] is right, try to avoid a work experince in a shop like the plague, especially high street retailers. You have been warned.

You want fun? Brothels are now required to offer work experience, so if you're up for it:

Ashman, I would suggest working for a newspaper - if you live in London - the firms will certainly encourage you to join them and become the tea man for a week. :D

Make sure you don't end up working in any kind of shop. Work experience should be just that - an experience, something fun, something you'll remember. Work in a shop and you'll be so bored you'll try and gauge your own eyes out with a spoon.

Try a cinema, or a leisure centre or something.

My work experience was back at my old primary school. Was very good, got to see my old teachers again and catch up, saw what went on in the staff room (being the only guy in a room full of 15 women is very awkward and embarrasing)

The teacher i was with was very nice, answered all my questions and allowed me to actually take a few lessons instead of just sending me off somewhere to do meaningless rubbish. Of course the fact she was a hot 23 year old woman didn't hurt matters either :-D

Thanks for the replies. I've narrowed it down to applying at my local football club of which I support, Woking, my local school that I use to go to, or going around for a local newspaper with one of my brothers mates. Any more Work Experience stories or suggestions are still appreciated, as I'm open to more ideas.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Easy and free service!
I think it's fab that you provide an easy-to-follow service, and even better that it's free...!
