It's one of the most brilliantly bleak, strangely moving (the chapter where he finds a dog and tries to gain it as a companion had my crying like a big soft lump of geordie poo), and compelling books I've ever read. It'll take up maybe half an hour of your life to read it, and it would be half an hour well spent.
