The basics of the plot: There is only one man left alive on earth. Every other man, woman, and child on earth is a vampire. The book details the protagonist's life (such as it is), a few of his memories of the world as it was, and that is literally it.
Sounds like not much doesn't it? Well, you'd be wrong. It's one of the most brilliantly bleak, strangely moving (the chapter where he finds a dog and tries to gain it as a companion had my crying like a big soft lump of geordie poo), and compelling books I've ever read. It'll take up maybe half an hour of your life to read it, and it would be half an hour well spent.
how do you sleep at night?

Yup. My bro had it, and I've read it numerous times (as you say, it takes about half an hour to read)
Excellent, and I *love* the ending. It's a deserved classic, although some of the science is a little ropey. ;)
For the first couple of pages I thought it was going to be rubbish because the prose was just so bare but it gets quite hypnotic after a while and it really suits the story.
Great, great book though. Glad I bought it - and I wouldn't have, if it wasn't for the topics previously posted, recommending it and the like.
and we have had about 10 topics on this book in the past few months.
