I seem to recall being told that it depends on personal choice, but there's no specific doctrinal prohibition. JW avoid pagan rituals and festivals (of which Xmas is one), and I don't think a birthday celebration is pagan, or indeed religious in nature, and so can be celebrated. May well be entirely wrong though.
