i don't see many threads on snooker here, i know its not as exciting as football, anyone know whos currently winning the world campionship?
whos your favorite snooker player as well ?

i don't watch it that much i only know a few faces but i enjoy watching it.

my favorite player would probaly be *edit* O'SULLIVAN *edit*, because his shots are quite smooth.

Sorry to have you waste your time with the wonderful explanation and stuff, but...

I'd have to disagree. Not about FF being a nob, just about his opinion here :^)

In the US, straight pool (rules not commonly played over here) used to be the biggest televised cuesport.
But things have changed and now 9-ball dominates.

Partly that's because the faster games give more frequent breaks and thus more commercials, but also because Joe Average prefers to watch a faster and thus more exciting game.

In general, a viewer with a better appreciation for the tactical side of the game would prefer, well, a more tactical game, and one played out more slowly, allowing them to appreciate the tactical play.

2 opinions, both perfectly valid, based on people looking to get different things out of watching the game.

And so it is with snooker. Some people will prefer the faster, 'more exciting' play, while some people enjoy the tactics and like to watch people with personalities play the game. People who aren't bell-ends.

And back when Steve Davis was a more 'serious' player he didn't engage in any of the banta, he was as stoney faced as Williams or Hendry (hence the nickname 'interesting'). It's largely down to the frame of mind they find best suited to competetive play - you let emotion, nerves or adrenaline get to you and you're sunk. Better to block it all out.

Also, Edgy, hate to have to say it, but 'Checkmate', when it blatantly isn't, makes you sound like a Ronnie-esqu arrogant retard.
Sorry, but it had to be said.

That's what swayed me not to use him as an example.
:-D

Wasn't there a match when there was a radio or something playing? Madness.

It's probably because Davis doesn't really have any realistic hopes of achieving much in the game anymore so he just relaxes and enjoys his game.

It was funny when Davis was playing Hamilton and the phone went off.

"Tell them you'll be late."

John Parrott does a bit of crowd banter when he's playing too.

It's funny - I was considering mentioning him, as he's always smiling, joking around - no matter the circumstances.
It's that breed of player that seems to be dying out now, really.

I came to that conclusion about FF ages ago Azul, what's taken you so long :-D

Anyway give me the Interesting One Steve Davis over all these new players anyday. Great player, carried himself with humility and is very funny. (and was my choice to be a panelist on They Think It's All Over instead of that boring unfunny get, David Seaman)
