The sets usually contain all of Hayao Miyazaki films and shorts on around 6 dvds (or four for the subtitled only set), which are:
Spirited Away
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Only Yesterday
Whisper of the Heart
Princess Mononoke
My Neighbor Totoro
Pom Poko
Porco Rosso
Laputa Castle in the Sky
Grave of the Fireflies
Kiki's Delivery Service
Ocean Waves
Every single one of the ones I've seen so far are beyond any other anime out there. I'm tempted to get the set with both English and Japanese language options, but don't know who to get them from or how much I should expect to pay, so if anyone can recommend a place....
In the meantime, if anyone else hasn't seen Spirited Away yet, then get yourselves down to the shops and buy or rent it now!
I would like to see The Cat Returns and Whisper of the Heart (I had to print out a translation) one of my favourites. I'm pretty sure that Howl's Moving Castle will get a cinema release in the UK. I'm keen to hear the re-dub of Porco Rosso one of my favourite Ghibli films. I really should get round to getting the French version with Jean Reno as the Crimson Pig.
It's a shame that his career is already coming to an end when most people are still discovering his wonderful films. Well I guess he's not retiring, I'm sure he'll be involve in many more projects to come, just not get involved so much as he has on previous films. He really does work very hard. I hope Studio Ghibli can continue to create such inspiring and beautiful films in 2D animation. Dreamworks and Disney, I'm not suprised they gave up 2D animation thinking it's now dead compared to 3D computer animation, how foolish they'll learn the hard way.
Ghibli advice stuff...
Thanks for that info.
Haven't seen The Cat Returns.. is this coming out on DVD sometime soon? Miyazaki's latest.. Howl's Moving Castle looks just as stunning as the others. Pity it won't be out here until 2005..
Porko Rosso was glorious, so was My Neighbour Totoro, i'm definately getting those 2 at least!
Porco Rosso
Whisper of the Heart
Only Yesterday
Pom Poko

joy, oh joy.
I'm betting Howl's moving castle will make it to the UK at some point. especially after spirited away won an oscar.
:D
(I'm all excited now)
btw. I really recommend all of DWJ books. I've got every one released so far, and they are all excellent.
A good place to start is her aldult books, especially deep secret.
From what we did read, it felt very Ghibli-esque, and I could instantly get a good picture in my mind of what the could be like when turned into an animated feature.
There is a very short teaser trailer for it:

Oh my God. That story is by my favorite auther Dianna Wynne Jones. I love that book, and it's sequal, and although I have known for ages it was getting made into a film in japan, I had no idea it was going to be by Studio Ghibli!
*jumps for joy*.
It should be fantastic. I hope with all the hope I have, that it gets a UK release.
*crosses fingers*
