is anyone who deems to be a PS2 owner annoyed by the fact that their beloved console doesnt have 4 controller ports to play multiplayer games.I am very annoyed that we have to pay 30 odd quid for a multitap for games like quake 3 revolution.Consoles that are out or comming out all have 4 ports,Dreamcast,N64,X BOX,Gamecube, they all have them. The N64 was the first the spur this revolution(i think) of 4 player heaven, the game that took that idea was the classic goldeneye.

I would like to know what you think on the matter,to pay for a multitap or just lump it,i mean if your serious about your gaming you should own one,it is a great party essential,so what do u think

Doesn't bother me at all.

On the PS1 I bought 2 multitaps and 7 controllers for some awesome 8-player FIFA. To be honest, after an initial FIFA frenzy, they were hardly used.

Anything more than 2-player is migraine-inducing unless you have a large TV. And to be honest, if you can afford a nice big TV, you aren't going to be too worried about splashing out for a multi-tap and a few controllers.

Well, if I wanted one, I could just go and buy a multi-tap for it.

It's only £20, which wouldn't bother me much at all. Especially since I'm saving so much money thanks to gameaday!

I'd rather have the satisfaction of beating my friends than the feeling of beating someone I'll never know!

Online gaming is ok if you know someone who lives far away, as long as you're willing to pay ISP charges, but I prefer the advantages of 4 player games with 4 controllers with 4 ports on 1 console!

You nearly got us there Ant but I'm going to retort by saying that Sony has already made people pay twice by releasing "new" analogue and rumble pads!

As for what FM said, he basically said that the PS2 is for loners but the Gamecube, however, has both online play and 4 ports so both loners and people with friends can play it.

What's more, loners and people with friends can now play together. EVERYONE'S happy!

... except Ant and FM because I proved both of the wrong...

The thing is, hardly any games are 4-player, and the games I'm getting/have already got, are 1-2 players, so it doesn't really matter.

I've got a multi-tap for my PSX, which I use only for Smackdown 2, out of the 33 games I own for it.

BUT, here's a way that Sony HAVEN'T milked money out of us. I only own one PS2 Controller, and I also own 3 PSX controllers. The good thing is, I can use all those controllers on the PSX and the PS2 (unlike the GameCube, which has new controllers altogether)

And of course you can play PSX games on PS2.

Personally I could get by with just the one port as most of my games are RPGs.

Most PC games are only single player, the ports being replaced with online gaming, so instead of a multitap you have the internet, which allows millions to play the same game at once.

This is the thinking behind only 2 ports on the PS2, it's designed primarily to be a single or two player console in the home, and if you wish to have more players you just go online instead (when they've got it ready, that is).

So the extra ports don't really add that much to a console when you look at it from an online gamer's perspective. Nice to have them, but not essential.

Initially I was most annoyed at the lack of a 3rd and 4th port. But I managed to overcome this by killing all of my friends!
It didn't cost me a penny and I don't even need the second port (except when taking on Psycho Mantis in MGS).
Clearly the way forward. :-)
