Got the DVD the other day and am saving the new 30 mins longer "special edition" for the weekend. However the featurettes on the (troubled) making of the film have been a revalation. They are extremely candid and even go so far as to criticise things like the special effects in the finished version of the film and point out continuity errors (Golic's accent changes from "Charles Manson" to scally scouser in the space of one scene.

A word of caution though; the featurettes are split into pre-production, production and post-production and when you reach the second production featurette (if you watch them in order) they start talking (Terry Rawlings et al who edited Alien and Alien 3) about what cuts they had to make; which appear in the special edition.

Oh and did you know that skin head Sigourney was wearing a $14,000 wig for the final scenes?

Woah.

That much trouble for a bald look? Stupid

Why even have the whole head lice thing in the film.

Nice image you've created in my mind pre-lunch. Thank you Timothy.

Some bloke spent a week making the wig "stitching" 5mm long hairs into it. Saved them $26,000 though as Sigourney wanted $40,000 to shave off all her hair again, as this was a re-shoot.

$14,000? I only charged the hair company £50 for the hair they took from my ass.
