That's because UK law requires that you be 17 to own a BB gun, I believe.

Get a CO2 air pistol... they're fantastic.
But don't shoot people or animals, just targets.
I've got a Walther CP88 and it's sweeeeeet.
Also got a 'Duck Shoot' style combined knock-down target and pellet trap.
