Gothika
Starring: Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz, Robert Downey Jr.
Release Date: 2nd April 2004

Premise
"A criminal psychologist awakens to find herself a patient in the institution where she works, with no memory of the murder she's accused of committing. As she tries to regain her memory - and her freedom - a vengeful spirit manipulates her."

Casting
The acting was pretty top notch, so there was definately good casting. Cruz, Downey and Cruz put on great performances that were truly believable.

Script
The script and dialogue had its moments, where you were completely gripped. At timex taxing, but still a damn interesting premise.

Special Effects
Hardly any CGI here, except one effect near the end that I didn't particularly like of a man being burnt. However, a CGI shotgun blast was pretty damn good, so it evens out I guess.

Cameos
None

Best moment
Halle Berry's daring escape from the penetentiary. Marvellous.

Best quote
None

Ending
The ending was not bad at all - it was left open for a sequel and left things in your mind to discuss or think over.

Worth getting on DVD?
I wouldn't get it, but its definately worth a rental.

Rating
7/10 - not bad, considering I thought it'd be a really naff psychological thriller. Some very good moments (her escape etc), but I hope they don't ruin it by making a sequel. Rent this before you buy.

Although annoying, I feel he fitted the part.

The boy annoyed me in the Japanese one:

Mother: Yoichi?
Yoichi: Ah.
Mother:What's wrong Yoichi?
Yoichi: Ah.
Mother: Okay, do your homework.
Yoichi: Ah.

It was like listening to a monosylabic Tweaky (or whatever his name was in Buck Rogers)

In the latter half, yes.

Have you seen the movie?

I have - thought it was good, though not best ever.

Was very clichéd and reminded me very much of The Ring (which is far superior in my opinion)

BAh apart form the sight of a stark naked Halle Berry, I thought it was the same stuff that has been done loads of time before, but without screaming American pieesque teenage actors.

I thought Gothika was a really good film. One of the best i`ve seen for a while apart from starsky and Hutch.I just didnt know what `not alone`meant in Gothika.
I`d just like to point out that in ur first post for this room you typed `Cruz,Downey and Cruz` or did you do that on purpose?!
