My computer was seriously screwed-over today when I was attacked by some really nasty spyware. It installs a 'fake' version of WMP and whenever you run it a worm is executed, and various .exe files are executed.
I suggest getting Ad-Aware 6 [URL]http://www.lavasoftusa.com[/URL] and downloading the latest reference file (released today- thankfully) which solves this problem.

Just a warning- you won't always get attacked but trust me- this is pretty nasty.

What did you download?
It was spyware- by screwing my system I meant multiple pop-ups and dodgy processes.
If it just wanted to screw your system over, then it wasn't Spyware, most probably a virus or a worm.
Spyware does what it says, spies on you. Monitors web activity, sends targeted adverts to you, hijacks your search pages etc, but if it screws your system, it's a virus.
