"Original Dawn of the Dead film."

Anyone see it last night? I did see it ages ago, but I'd forgotten how good it was. Much better than the new-fangled version, which was actually pretty good. The main reason for it being better is that it lasts beyond the few hours that it's on screen. The new one was just some fun explosions and action, but the old one was proper paranoia and atmosphere, combined with the brilliant characters. Shows up just how shallow mainstream cinema is.

Don't like those either, which was why I was expecting to like this. Just didn't do it for me though, I'm afraid.

I was a little confused with dawn of the dead (old), at times it felt like it did'nt know whether it was serious or not, i dont know whether this was because of its age, or the corny background music or the good black/slapstick comedy that was in place at times.

Can't really say why I like more, perhaps it's because I saw it before Dawn (I remember getting the two movies confused when I first rented it from the video library, so ended up watching the third film first) or maybe it's because of the apocalyptic scale, where cities are deserted save for the zombies and there's no help and no place else left for the characters to run.

I also like it because unlike the other two films the a lot more conflict between the characters, which makes things a little more interesting. But I suppose in the end it's because out of the three films, Day has the best effects of the lot, from the zombies right down to the over the top gore fest at the end which tops many of the scenes of the previous films.

Either way, it's my favourite of the three, but then I think all 3 are great movies, it's just that for me, "day" stands out more.

So are you. Day could've been so great, had the studio let it. Still, I hope it's on soon since I haven't seen it for years and Bub always makes me smile.

I'd defend Dawn to you all but I can tell its brilliance is lost on you and I'd just be wasting my time.

I don't think that the original has more of a sense of paranoia than the remake at all, quite the reverse in fact.

The original, mainly due to the incredible comedy of the zombies on the escalators, just wasn't scary or worrying at all. The fast, dangerous zombies of the remake, combined with the total feeling of isolation due to lack of television or communication made it just that more real.

The bikers in the original are great, but they remove the sense of isolation and total zombie-world-takeover factor.

The main difference that I can see is that in the original, I cared more for the safety of the characters, and actually wanted them to escape, whereas the remake made me care more about the rest of the world, for some odd reason.

Heh, the best one was when the blonde haired guy was in the big rig and his face and hands got covered in zombie blood, then after the camera cuts away and then cuts back again he is clean as a whistle.

I found that it was on twenty minutes in, when they were already popping caps in those zombie ass#s. Or something.

To be honest, I can't say I was impressed. My sister was in the other room and she asked what I was laughing at so much, because there so many literal laugh-out-loud moments. Like the zombie kids, who after a few times of being thrown onto a couch (THE most obvious doll-in-place-of-a-person EVER) are gunned down by a machine gun, the screwdriver in the ear moment, camera inconsistencies, poor acting, terrible make up jobs (in some places they don't even have any at all) etc etc etc.

And the way the zombies are stupid and easy play toys one minute, and the next they're eating human steaks. I appreciate the tradition that zombies are only strong in numbers, but the stupidity of the lone zombies (or few) was so overdone it was hard to believe that they could do any damage at all.

The plot didn't make all that much sense to me either, although, granted, I think I missed some details. If someone could fill me in I'd be grateful, because at the moment I don't why they did most of the things they did, and HOW they actually managed to do them.

Maybe I was expecting too much because of the film's "classic" status, but I really saw it more as a comedy than anything else. I was expecting cheesy acting and poor make up, but I was also expecting an eery atmosphere and a lingering feeling of discomfort that just didn't happen. It was just wide of the mark. My two reactions to this film throughout, in internet form, were:

"LOL"
"wtf?"

Useless fact: I have loads and loads of dvds, and Dawn of the Dead is the only one film commentary I have ever listened to.

Fantastic film, apart from the bright orange blood.

Heh! tis an excellent scene from Zombie Flesh Eaters.

Man the Zombie make-up in that film is excellent.
