More shockers a foot! Deportivo are beating AC 2-0 one more goal and they are ahead on away goals!

Porto doing as expected! 1-1 they are pretty much through!

This is the funniest champs league ever! if Deportivo go through this is quite crazy.

wonder what odds you could have got on a final 4 like that!

besides i really don't want to play depor, i could see us stumbling against them, they are one of those teams you look at and think theere's nothing special but they always seem to crop up with a results. They always seem to score and go through with crazy draws, 2 alls and the likes as well.

far from it! i think the system is fine as it is. Chelsea deserve to be there. Lets face it if they were in the portuguese league they would walk it. entry is just as much calibre than walking a pisss easy league.

That is such a invalid point ortega that is made every year. Yes it is called the champion's league, but only as a shiney new name for the European cup. The best team in a country changes most years.

Who won the title last season? Man utd.

Who is third best (and genuinely so) this season? Man utd

By including the top teams from top divisions you create a better array of talent.

Suppose Roman said as of next season roman said:

From now on chelsea will be known as aberwysth town and shall play in the welsh division. We probably wouldn't concede all season let alone lose, as champions of wales we would be entitled to our place in the champs league. yes but this is stupid. the fact that chelsea finished 4th in arguably the best league in the world should make them less eligible for the premier european competition than some jokers from wales?

No. the best teams in europe should be there, not just the winners or a team like blackburn who arguably fluked the title.

My final an most valid point is picking at the use of the word champion. It is a popular misconception that champion means "the person who won over everyone else" while it does have this implication, it also has far more wide reaching implication. A champion is one put forward to represent the people, hence terms such as "king's champion" or the "peoples champion" they are the representatives of the people. Given they are put forward on ability they do not have to be the overall winner. ie "there are many champions here at the jousting match".

My dictionary defines a champion as :

1. One that wins first place or first prize in a competition

2. One that is clearly superior or has the attributes of a winner

3. An ardent defender or supporter of a cause or another person

4. One who fights; a warrior.

a champion is a representitive of high merit (as well as an overall winner), and this the case here really.

I'll go for Porto winning it.

I don't really like them though
